Our Leadership

Thomas “Rick” Hughes, Chairman of Capital Companies

From humble beginnings in the Appalachian mountains of the Virginias, Rick was a scholar athlete for Emory & Henry College. Following graduation, he began coaching football, as an assistant, at Virginia Tech. Later in life, Rick married his beautiful wife, Paula, and began a career at the F&I company, Pat Ryan and Associates. After his promotion to Director of Business Development, Rick settled in Charlotte, NC. Inspired by his experience, Rick founded Capital Automotive and Capital Benefit Group, to provide dealerships with a better quality in products and services.

Rick believes in traditional family values and in giving to those less fortunate. As a Lymphoma survivor, Rick lives every day with a thankful spirit and a deep love for his family.

Rick has served as a College Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Volunteer Athletic Coach. He grounds his philanthropic activities in the Bible verse, Malachi 3:10. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Rick has presented during numerous professional seminars including BSF and CEO-Ninety.
